How do expectations shape what we do? This review introduces the Expectations Shape Action framework, which links predictive processes across perception, motivation, action, agency, and learning. By integrating evidence from neuroscience, psychology, motor control, and psychiatry, Expectations Shape Action provides a unified account of how expectations guide adaptive behaviour. The framework further offers a translational perspective on how disturbances in predictive control contribute to symptoms across mental disorders.
